On-Grid Solar System
On Grid Solar System Generates power when the electricity grid is available. This must be connected to electricity grid to function. On-Grid Solar System sends excess power generated back to the grid when there is an overproduction of power, which can be used later.
On-Grid Solar Power systems are connected to the public electricity grid and have no battery storage. Any solar power that you generate from an on-grid system (and do not use in your house) is exported onto the electricity grid. You usually get paid for the net-energy that you export.
Off-Grid Solar System
Off Grid Solar System requires battery storage as it as it is not connected to electricity grid. An off-grid system requires battery storage and is not connected to the electricity grid. In these a solar technician needs to design a system in such a way that has enough power generation and battery storage to meet the home’s requirements even in the depths of winter when there is no or little sunlight.

How Does a Rooftop Solar System Work?
Solar rooftop panels rely on photovoltaic cells within the panels to absorb the energy emitted by the sun and convert it into electricity. These cells are made of conductive materials like silicon, acting as a semiconductor. When these solar cells receive sunlight, a chemical reaction occurs within them, which then releases electrons, which generate an electric current.
The core component of these photovoltaic cells in a solar rooftop system are layers of doped silicon crystal-based semiconductor materials. A positive charge is created by the bottom layer of the cell, which is laden with boron which bonds with silicon. While the negative charge is created by the top layer that is doped with phosphorus. An electric field is produced by the movement of the surface between these two layers called the P-N junction.
When the cells receive sunlight, photons knock electrons out of both layers. The flow of electrons then occurs, since the top and bottom layers possess opposite charges. The electrons then travel to an external circuit through which electricity is carried for usage purposes, controlled by the P-N junction.
